Initial Phone Conversation

Intake Appointment
The first appointment is usually a detailed interview (online or in-person). This is where you’ll discuss history, current concerns, and goals, and decide which type of assessment is most appropriate.
Testing Sessions
Testing sessions may include one or more appointments involving standardized tests, questionnaires, and observations. For children, parents often wait nearby in clinic or return after the session.
Feedback & Written Report
Once the assessment, Dr. Derksen meets to explain your questions, and answer through practical recommendations. You’ll receive a written report.
What a Psychological Assessment Can Help With
People usually seek a psychological assessment when they’re looking for clarity, a diagnosis, or recommendations in areas such as:
List of Areas:
- Attention and ADHD-related concerns (children, teens, or adults)
- Learning and academic difficulties (e.g., reading, writing, math, working memory)
- School challenges and behaviour concerns
- Emotional concerns such as anxiety, mood, or regulation issues
- Clarifying an existing diagnosis or getting a second opinion
A thorough assessment can help you understand what’s really going on and guide decisions about school supports, accommodations, mental-health treatment, and day-to-day strategies at home or work.
